MICHAEL AVON OEMING
Co-Creator & Story
Mike Oeming's early years are shrouded in mystery. What we do know of his early life follows: His career in comics began as an inker at the unusually young age of 14. While still a youngster Mike was able to hone his craft whith the toutelage of Neil Vokes and Adam Hughes and corespondence with Nexus creators Steve Rude and Mike Baron. His love of drawing quickly consumed his life and he would often skip school in order to draw. This constant truancy led to expulsion from High School and his first paying comic gigs.

His first big break was as an inker on Daredevil, and shortly after as penciller/inker on DC’s version of Judge Dredd, then Foot Soldiers at Dark Horse Comics. During the mid-90s comics crash, Mike moved back into indie comics, which started his path on creator owned comics with Ship of Fools, co-created with collaborator Bryan J.L. GLass. While drawing Ship of Fools, Mike continued with paying work such as inking Neil Vokes on Ninjack and drawing Bulletproof Monk, later turned into a John Woo film. Business was slow, so when Mikes first child was born, he got a “real job” working as a security guard—where he drew on the job, of course. This was when Mike developed a new simpler style as well as several projects including the Mice Templar, Hammer of the Gods, Quixote, and what would become Powers with Brian Michael Bendis. Mike and Brian had met several years earlier, knowing they would soon work together.

Powers became the dream project Mike and Brian had worked so hard for—a creator owned project they could live on. Powers has been nominated for a Harvey Award and won an Eisner. Mike was nominated for his work on Powers for an Eisner. With Powers ongoing, Mike has tackled several other projects including Hammer of the Gods, Bastard Samurai, Bluntman and Chronic, Parliament of Justice, Hellboy, Catwoman, 86 Voltz, The Dead Girl, The Goon, Quixote, Blood River, Six, What If?, Magician: Apprentice (with Bryan J.L. Glass) and has begun writing for Marvel Comics. His writing stint on the final run of Thor has been widely acclaimed as well as Thor: Blood Oath. Beta Ray Bill and Ares are amongst his writing chores along with writing the monthly Red Sonja series.

Currently he is busy with a new Volume of Powers, Mice Templar, Rapture mini-series with creator Taki Soma and God Complex.

JOHN BROGLIA
Artist
John Broglia’s love for comics dates back to his early childhood. Before he was even old enough to read, John’s mother would take him around the corner of their Brooklyn home to the local comics shop and let him pick out a handful of books that she would later read to him before he went to bed. The urge to read the comics on his own gave John the drive to read at such a young age. This eventually led to John’s passion to create comics of his own. He emulated his heroes and created his own versions of popular characters all throughout his school years. When the time came to choose a college to attend, the choice was obvious. He needed to apply to a school where he could major in Cartooning. John attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan where, in his sophomore year, he discovered the world of animation and temporarily left the world of comics behind. While attending class he would venture over to the nearest comic shop and pick up issues of the newly released book Powers and his passion was revived. An animated style much like his own and content geared for an adult audience; this was what he always wanted to do! After graduation, a few small internships and some paid work in the New York City animation scene, John returned to his first love. He teamed up with a pair of inspired writers looking to start their own small press company. It was his first paid gig in comics and even though the book (as well as the company) never saw the light of day it led John to his first trip to Comicon International in San Diego and a chance encounter with William Tucci, famed creator of Shi. A year later, in 2005, Tucci gave John his first break in the industry, teaming up with a European company to produce John’s first published work, Zombie Sama! This led to a signing at the first ever NY Comicon where John was finally given the opportunity to meet the man who helped breathe life back into his love for comics; Michael Avon Oeming. John’s initial plan was to approach Mike with his artwork in order to receive some critical feedback. He was blown away when the star artist invited him to his local NJ Drink ‘n’ Draw. They quickly became great friends and looked forward to working together on a project. During that time John participated in the first volume of Mice Templar, drawing some layouts and a pin up for the series. After a couple of years the two decided on a grand story of a Greek god turned mortal and the complex life he will have to endure. This will be John’s first ongoing series, a dream realized with a company he followed religiously from its start and with a creator he greatly admires. Its funny how sometimes fate can guide you right toward your dreams… John currently lives on Long Island with his beautiful wife Vanessa.
